Focus areas:

App Design, Portal Design

As a start-up with a new brand and design system already defined when I joined, this was a blank canvas and an exciting opportunity to set strong foundations from the start.

We implemented consistent design principles and rules across both platforms, creating a seamless and cohesive experience across the app and web portal.

App

The app was designed to present account and investment information in a clear, visual, and engaging way, making finance easier to understand. It also provided intuitive account setup journeys and budgeting tools to encourage users to invest with us.

Data visualisations simplified complex information, while playful interactions and action feedback softened the seriousness of finance. Consistency with the portal and wider brand ensured a seamless cross-platform experience.

Portal

DESIGN

The portal required a detailed but essential setup process to build a personalised dashboard based on users' risk appetite and financial goals. With little user data available, we relied on workshops with our financial advisers to streamline the journey while capturing all the relevant information needed.

From a design perspective, we drew heavily on competitor research and products with complex form functionality, such as Compare the Market. Our priority was to minimise overwhelm by presenting one question per screen where possible, using clear sectioning for more detailed steps, and providing continuous but positive progress feedback to keep users engaged and reduce drop-offs.

ONBOARDING

As our offering centred around financial advice, we knew users would have varying levels of experience. Onboarding was therefore key - not only to help beginners navigate an unfamiliar space, but also to enable experienced investors to self-serve. The idea was that this would reduce demand on our lean team of advisers, allowing them to focus on financial advice and product enquiries therefore meeting both user and business needs.

A clear onboarding flow was achieved using introductory screens to explain navigation and key functionality, supported by GIFs demonstrating core actions.

We then used feedback from live chat and support calls to iterate on our onboarding and address areas of user confusion.
